EURIPIDES/ Ras Tanajib Pile Load Tests
Harry Kolk, Fugro
Harry Kolk gave an excellent overview of
two major axial load testing programmes, in the Netherlands and Saudi
Arabia, on 0.76m diameter pipe piles driven into very dense sands. The
results differ significantly from predictions based on conventional API
design criteria but show good agreement with those based on more recent
CPT based design criteria. A lively discussion ensued, including a
prepared presentation on the recently revised Imperial College
calculation method. Harry’s presentation is a modified version of that
to be given at the International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore
Geotechnics in Perth, Western Australia during September 2005. OES and
BGA are hoping to hold a de-briefing meeting on this conference in
January 2006. Further background to the EURIPIDES tests can be found in
OTC paper 7977.
